Denmark and European Integration: A Historical and Institutional View

Denmark joined the European Communities in 1973 together with Great Britain and Ireland. Since then, Denmark has always had a particular position in terms of its participation in various aspects of European cooperation, such as common defense, social and fiscal policies, in general in European Integration. This course focuses on analyzing Denmark’s special status in the EU and European Integration from a historical and institutional view.
The main purpose of this course is to help the students to master the basic theories and research methods of International Politics, to enhance their knowledge of the EU in different aspects and to provide them with a deepened understanding of the role of Denmark in European integration and its historical reasons. The course will also provide the students with teamwork opportunities in order to help them develop their critical-thinking abilities.
